Leaving the children you have come to know and appreciate is always hard, but I'm glad to know that I have had some impact on them and hope I have helped them to build upon their literacy foundation. So many of the students wanted so badly to read to me, even if for five minutes. This shows that they are truly enthusiastic about reading and I think it's important to cultivate that enthusiasm and encourage the further development of young readers and writers. The children sent me off with individual cards; they had drawn and written messages to me, the perfect example of literacy among this group of children. Upon my leaving, my teacher did a read- aloud with the class. Unbeknownst to me, she had all of the children sign the book and after reading it, she dedicated the book to me. She said "Most people show their gratitude and appreciation through treats and candy, but we like to show our appreciation through literature." These are the moments I live for. This shows me that I had some form of impact on children, which is my main goal in life.
